NEW MD FOR SHETLAND WIND POWER

We are pleased to announce that Mr Peter Kenny has recently taken up the role of Managing Director at Shetland Wind Power.

PROVEN ENERGY Ltd

Proven Energy Ltd were placed into receivership on Friday 16th September 2011 following the discovery of a technical defect with their Proven 35-2 wind turbine, which has led to these wind turbines needing to be switched off.
Following discussions with Proven Energy Ltd, Shetland Wind Power understand that the technical defect has been identified and there is a proposed solution to the issue which, once verified/implemented, will allow these wind turbines to be switched on again.
Shetland Wind Power is actively monitoring the evolving situation and will continue to endeavour to provide information to our customers as soon as it becomes available.
Shetland Wind Power are also evaluating other wind turbines which may also be suitable for our customers.
In the interim, Shetland Wind Power would like to assure its customers that we continue to trade as normal.

FEED-IN TARIFF INCREASE

Feed-in tariffs were increased by 4.8% on 1st April 2011 in line with the government’s promise to index link the tariffs. The FIT’s tariff for 1.5-15kw is now 28p/Kwh. Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) were introduced in the UK on 1st April 2010, causing exciting changes in the small scale renewables industry. FITs provide micro generators with a fixed payment for every unit of electricity generated and will be guaranteed for 20 years. In addition to this generators will be free to use the energy generated at their site and save the cost of buying electricity from the grid. Any excess energy can be sold to the grid at an agreed rate. The Feed-in Tariff is available to off grid installations too. The FIT’s payments are tax free to private individuals

FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH

Shetland Wind Power has been acquired by Nevis Capital LLP in November 2010. Nevis Capital is a partnership of entrepreneurs who invest their own money to back businesses that already have a proven track record of achievement and they believe can be developed and grown for the benefit of the customers, employees and shareholders. Sandy Speirs joined Shetland Wind Power as Managing Director in November 2010 and Sandy is also a shareholder in the business.

AITH RNLI

Shetland Wind Power

Shetland Wind Power Ltd recently completed the design and installation of the prestigious turbine at Aith RNLI station in Aith, Shetland. This is the first turbine to be installed at an RNLI station in Britain and has proved a hit with the crew stating “its gloriously warm in here now!”. The crew at the station wanted to reduce their high electricity costs incurred in keeping the lifeboat engines warm to ensure the lifeboat can reach full power faster when responding to an emergency. It was also another milestone for Shetland as it was the first Westwind 20Kw to be installed in Shetland.
